Plettenberg Bay is undoubtedly one of the best places in South Africa as a resting place. For miles you can see and walk the white sandy beaches and get lost in the feeling of total relaxation. The miles of beaches of Plettenberg Bay makes you feel as if you are lost in time.
The weather makes the difference. In Plettenberg Bay you will find that the wind does not blow as much as any other town down along the Garden Route in the Western Cape. The sunshine lasts for about 300 days of the year, making it a great holiday destination.
Whale Watching is one of the best tourist attractions around the Plett area. Even watching them from the Rooberg Reserve, you can see these huge mammals enjoying the water, feeding their little ones. They are in Plettenberg Bay from about July until January, but you might see the most of them during the last few months.
The Robberg Nature Reserve is also a great tourist attraction and maybe this is because you stand at the southern point of Africa experiencing this beautiful nature. The Island in the Robberg Nature Reserve is great for sitting and looking as the huge wave's splashes against the rocks. It makes you feel small.
Getting available accommodatio in this area might be difficult especially over the holiday season in December and January. Lots of local visitors and also foreign visitors come to plett every year and if you want to find good Holiday Accommodation you need to book well in advance. Many people do rent their houses for the visitors while they go and explore neighbouring destinations. Many of them will take the opportunity to go overseas while others will seek out the opportunity to just go camping in the Caravan Park down the road. No matter where you stay in Plettenberg Bay, nature will reward you.
Maybe the one thing about this area which still captivates me is the sunsets and the sunrises. Waking up to the red skies over the mountains is a scene which will stay with you for the rest of your entire life. Make sure you get up early enough and have your camera ready. You are about to get some excellent pictures.
Only a few kilometers away is the great neighbouring town of Knysna. Experience the shops at the Waterfront or visit the famous Knysna Elephant Park
